I went in search of cupcakes and returned with fresh coconut juice and a tasty sandwich.
After finding a gluten-free bakery in Plymouth, Rumi’s Passion Gluten-Free Bakery, I decided I needed to check the city out. First on my list was Drought, an organic raw juice shop that carries freshly-pressed, delicious fruit juice. The coconut carrot was the perfect blend of sweetness and freshness to make me think of Honolulu. Plus, the juice comes in these nifty, reusable glass bottles.
Next step was Simple Sandwich, whose “gluten-free bread” sign caught my eye. I had the the Good Hart vegetarian sammich, I definitely want to come back here for lunch. Update: Simple Sandwich has closed, as of April 2014.
Saving the cupcakes for last, I stopped by Rumi’s Passion on 5 Mile. The place was pretty full, and I could see why: St. Patrick’s Day themed cookies, fresh bread and cakes, all gluten-free. I got a Sanders-inspired bumpy cake cupcake and a chocolate coconut macaroon. They also carry their own gluten-free flours. If you don’t feel like sweets, their onion rolls are the perfect size for veggie burgers.
Rumi Rocks!
I love Rumi’s. They usually come to the Lansing Gluten Free Fair every year. http://Www.facebook.com/LansingGlutenFreeFair.
Thanks for the link! I’ll have to check it out— and there’s one coming up in Grand Rapids this weekend, btw. http://glutenfreegr.com/foodfair/
